Avangard Hotel
We do love an abandoned place, especially if it is a rather brutalist Soviet affair. The Avangard hotel complex on Lake Sevan, Armenia, is one of these – a vast unfinished project that was deserted before welcoming a single guest.
The sprawling and somewhat over-the-top complex comprised of several blocks, including two high-rise wings arranged around an open courtyard facing the water.
Construction stopped before the interiors were completed, with the collapse of the Soviet Union killing all funding and the political will to see the project finished.
This is an interesting and unique location, in a beautiful setting.
